Shrink Volume on the Virtual Machine
In case you intend to shrink volume on the virtual machine, then you can opt to follow the below-mentioned guidelines.
  • Go to Hyper-V Manager and launch it.
  • After that, choose the host and link it to the Windows virtual machine.
  • You should sign in the Windows client machine or Windows Server 2019.
  • Reach the Start menu, and right-click on it. Then choose Disk Management.
  • Go to the Disk 1 (50 GB) and select the Shrink Volume option.
  • Input the amount of storage to shrink in MB and Shrink it. In our situation, we will shrink the volume to 25 Gigabytes. Write down that you can’t shrink a volume further than the point wherever any unmoved file is situated.
  • Now, you have correctly shrunk the volume.
  • Go to the unallocated volume and right-click on it and select the ‘New Simple Volume.’ In our situation, we will initialize and format 24.49 GB, which is prior to shrinking.
  • Beneath the ‘Welcome to the New Simple Volume Wizard’ and select the Next option.
  • Underneath the ‘Specify Volume Size’ option, select the Next button.
  • Allot the pursuing drive letter and select the Next button.
  • Beneath the ‘Format Partition’ keep the standard settings for File System and Allocation unit size and modify the label of Volume and choose the Next button.
  • Below the ‘Completing the New Simple Volume Wizard’ look at the setup settings and select the Finish button.
  • Now, you have correctly made a disk.
  • Navigate to the File Explorer and launch it.
  • Then confirm it the disk is correctly shrunk and prepare to use.
Extend the Volume 
If the users are trying to extend the volume, then they should carefully apply the given steps.
  • Go to the ‘Disk Management’ and launch it once more.
  • After that, reach the Backup 2 partition and right-click on it that we prior then select the Delete Volume option.
  • Underneath the ‘Delete simple volume’ option, select the Yes option to remove the volume.
  • Now, you have effectively removed the volume.
  • Reach the Backup 1, and right-click on it. Then select the Extend Volume.
  • Underneath the ‘Welcome to the Extend Volume Wizard’ and click on Next.
  • Beneath the Select Disks option, choose the volume, and select the Next button.
  • Below the ‘Completing the Extend Volume Wizard’ option, look at the settings, and choose the Finish button.
  • You have correctly extended the volume.
  • Navigate to the File Explorer and launch it.
  • You have to confirm it the disk is correctly extended and prepare to use.
